Do I need a Carry Permit?
As of July 1, 2021 you do not need a carry permit to carry in the state of Tennessee. Knowing the Tennessee carry laws will still be your responsibility, however.
Because Tennessee's Constitutional Carry is not TRUE Constitutional Carry, you can still be arrested for lawfully carrying in Tennessee until law enforcement can determine you are actually permitted to carry. The main problem with Tennessee's gun laws are the foundation that it is illegal to carry with the intent to go armed. It is illegal to be armed in public and permits as well as "Constitutional Carry" are carved out examples to the law. So at this time it is still better to be permitted rather than carrying without a permit. We are hoping this changes soon and are lobbying to fix the gun laws in Tennessee.
We have posted a list below of permitless carry states you may be able to carry in without a permit. This list is current as of April 16, 2021. It is your responsibility to confirm laws of the state you will be carrying in. If the state you wish to visit is not on this list, check the page that has reciprocity with Tennessee. If it is on that list, you may want to get your carry permit.
Taking this carry permit class does not mean you have to apply for a permit but it does certify you to apply for the permit.
